Early lifeEdit

Jartka was born on 2 July 1987 in Suwałki. Her parents were both folk musicians, while her elder brother also is a professional Polish folk dancer. She grew up with an older and younger brother.

Jartka completed compulsory education in 2003. She subsequently began attending a music school, which she graduated from in 2006. After her graduation, Jartka moved to Kraków, where she attempted to establish herself as a musician.

2006–2011: Early careerEdit

After graduating high school, Jartka settled in Kraków. She has stated that she chose the city over Warsaw because of its immense beauty and proximity to other European cities. During this time, she adopted the nickname "Jartka", which comes from a misspelling of the Polish word jatka, which translates to "shambles".

Jartka was signed to an independent Polish record label in 2008, and released her debut studio album, Google mnie. The album had no chart impact, and shortly after Jartka was released from the label. She subsequently began working at a café in Kraków.

2011–2014: The Voice Poland and Kłamca kłamcaEdit

In 2011, Jartka auditioned for season one of The Voice Poland, and made it onto the show. For her audition, she was credited by her birth name, "Anastazja Modzelewska", but she was credited as Jartka in subsequent rounds. Jartka went on to win the show, and was signed to Universal Music Polska.

After being signed to UMP, Jartka began working on her debut major label studio album. The album's lead single, "Myślisz, że kim jestem", was released in early-2013. It peaked at number-1 in Poland. Her debut studio album, Kłamca kłamca, was released later that year, and peaked at number-8.

2014–present: ŚwiatłaEdit

Jartka began writing and recording for her second studio album, Światła, in 2014. The album's lead single, "Kiedy to się skończy", was released during summer 2016, and reached the top ten in Poland. The album was later released that autumn.

In 2017, she was confirmed to be taking part in Krajowy Konkurs 1, with the song "Kłamać za mnie". She ended up placing second, earning the second-highest amount of points from both the jury and the public.
